About Me

I currently live in Sandy, Utah, but I'm originally from the Denver area. (If you know the area, I'm from Broomfield. If you know Broomfield, drop me a note and we can share stories.) I've been in love with stories ever since my infancy. That's really my motivation for writing. Stories are what make me tick! I love them in all formats: books, movies, TV shows, video games, even comics/comic books/graphic novels. I guess my overactive imagination decided consuming other people's stories wasn't enough and started spinning out stories of its own. That's how I got started.

Well, if you read the little blurb I put on the main page, you'll remember that I characterized myself as a science-fiction writer with a little bit of fantasy thrown in for good measure. That's pretty much true; I love reading and writing both science-fiction and fantasy. But for some reason science-fiction has always resonated with me a little more. As much as I love magic and swords and epic medieval battles, technology just clicks with me more. I guess it's easier to wrap my mind around FTL drives and mass drivers than magic spells and enchanted weapons. I'm also a MAJOR sucker for spaceships!

I graduated from BYU in 2009 with a degree in Communications (emphasis in Print Journalism and further emphasis in publication design and new media) and a minor in editing. I've technically been writing ever since I was about five years old, but I didn't start getting serious about it until around 2001 or 2002. I started my first earnest attempt to write a full-length novel in 2003. I now work as a technical writer/editor for a local software company. This job has helped me discover that I love editing just as much as I love writing (in fact, I can edit far faster than I can write), and I'm always happy to edit for fellow aspiring writers.

Hope this helps you get to know me a little better. I'm always eager to hear from people, whether I know them or not. So if you have any comments on my blog or need an editor/critique partner, I'd love to hear from you; you can reach me at reece(dot)hanzon(at)gmail(dot)com.
